The Palaszczuk Government has announced the companies that will build the transformational EUR3.42 bn (AUD5.4 bn) Cross River Rail Project in Brisbane. The 10.2 km rail line will run from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, with a 5.9 km twin tunnel under the Brisbane River and CBD, 4 new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street and upgrades to Dutton Park and Exhibition stations.

 

The PULSE consortium, led by CIMIC Group companies, Pacific Partnerships, CPB Contractors, and UGL with international partners DIF, BAM and Ghella secured the contract for the Tunnel, Stations and Development (TSD) public private partnership, will deliver the underground section of the project, including the tunnel from Dutton Park to Normanby and the construction of four new, state-of-the-art underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street. The TSD will also provide a property development opportunity above Albert Street station.

 

UNITY Alliance with CPB Contractors, UGL, AECOM and Jacobs with  partners HASSELL, RCS Australia, Acmena, Martinus Rail and Wired Overhead Solutions secured the contract for  the Rail, Integration and Systems (RIS) alliance; Hitachi Rail STS secured the contract for the European Train Control System (ETCS), a new signalling system.

Zitrón has been appointed by the CBGU Design and Construction Joint Venture (CPB Contractors, Royal BAM Group nv, Ghella, UGL) to design and manufacture the tunnel ventilation axial fans for the Cross River Rail Project (CRR) in Brisbane. The project comprises a new 10.2-km rail line from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, that includes 5.9 km of twin tunnels under the Brisbane River and CBD.   

The axial fans that will be supplied under the contract will be manufactured and subjected to comprehensive testing at the new production facility currently being built by Zitron Australia in Perth.   

This new state of the art facility will be fully operational by January 2022. It will increase fan production capacity to meet growing demand and will allow for the testing of fans to the highest standards, thereby providing the validation of fan performance parameters demanded by our customers.

  $1 billion road and rail tunnel under the Brisbane river under planning. The 5 km North South Bypass Tunnel would link the southeast Freeway at Woolloongabba with the Inner-City Bypass at Bowen Hills. Pre-feasibility study completed in September, 2001. 01/02.The Brisbane City Council proposes to construct the north-south bypass tunnel which is intended to connect the M1 (Pacific motorway) and Ipswich Road to the south with the Inner City Bypass to the north of the Central Business District / Fortitude Valley. The proposed route will generally follow the alignment of Ipswich Road/Main Street at Woolloongabba in the south, cross under the Brisbane River beneath the Story Bridge and the river bank at Kangaroo Point and then proceed through Fortitude Valley and exit at Bowen Hills northeast of the city, where it would connect with the Inner City Bypass. The project, which will consist of twin 4.7 km two-lane tunnels, is part of the implementation of the Transport Plan for Brisbane 2002-2016.   €2 billion toll bridge project announced to link Lantau Island in Hong Kong with Zhuhai and Macao, west of it. Two artificial islands linked together by a 1.4 km tunnel will be built in the middle of the delta to allow ship navigation. Main financier is Hopewell Group (50%). 37/03.Hong Kong's Highways Department appointed Arup to carry out a feasibility study for the Hong Kong section of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge. The assignment involves preliminary design and an environmental impact assessment for about 12 km of bridge works that will be built in Hong Kong waters from Lantau Island. About 3 km of bridge could be replaced by a tunnel if the elevated structure is found to affect operations at nearby Hong Kong International Airport. The Hong Kong section will connect to the 30 km portion in mainland waters across the mouth of the Pearl River from Macau and Zhuhai. The firm will be responsible for designing measures to improve the ground conditions to make the tunnel easier to excavate. Arup will also design the tunnel ventilation equipment, carry out a fire safety assessment and prepare a health monitoring system. Arup will also carry out a construction and operation risk assessment.The link will be China's first subsea tunnel. The 6 km tunnel will be built as part of a 9 km highway linking Xibin in Xiamen's Xiangan district with Wutong on Xiamen Island in the East China Sea. The tunnel will be built using the drill/blast technique through granite bedrock. It will comprise two horseshoe-shaped tunnels, each accommodating a three-lane carriageway, plus a central service tunnel containing power, mechanical, electrical, communications and rescue facilities. Construction will commence in 2001 and last four years. October 1999.   $160 million finance for Herren tunnel will be on BOT basis. It becomes the first toll route in Germany, with a 30 years handover. Federal government is contributing more than half of the cost as the difference between that of bridge and tunnel. October 1999.Herrentunnel Lubeck GmbH has been formed by Hochtief and Bilfinger & Berger to plan, construct, finance and operate the twin-tube, 11.5 m o.d., 10.5 m i.d., 1.04 km-long tunnel which will be 9.5 m below the riverbed. A shield will be used for 780 m and the remaining 260 m will be cut-and-cover, with 600 m of ramps. There will be two crosspassages for emergency use.
